Porches and Stick

Well, Stick finally bloomed a few days ago and here is what he is........

Stick IS a hibiscus!  I couldn't believe it when I saw the first bloom.  And the blooms are HUGE.  I've never seen a tall, skinny hibiscus plant before - who knew?!  :)

Butler did not have a good day last Wednesday.  When I got home from work he was sitting on the couch in poop - loose poop - lots of it.  I cleaned the poop, Butler and the couch up.  When I got Butler upstairs all he did was lay on the bed - no eating food or drinking water - no lifting his head when I called his name.  I started crying - and praying for him.  He was doing a little better when I left for work Thursday and I put him in God's hands like I do everyday - and when I came home he was good as new.  He is one tough cookie.  And tonight when I let him in from going potty the last time - he lippity lopped (let's see how many of you know what author uses that expression in his books) across the back yard to come in.  Here's Butler from last night on the bed.

Jon has been working on the back porch - it needed painting now that the floor was done - and he finished painting today.  It looks a lot better.  I can move the furniture in tomorrow after work.

The New Eggplant Purple tile came in so I picked up the three very heavy boxes of tile tonight on my way home after work.  So Jon will start cutting and laying tile in the windowsills on the front porch tomorrow.  I'm really excited to get that done and the furniture back out there!

The downstairs steps and hallway have places where the wall has "blown out" as I call it.  Jon said because of water seeping in the ground and the acidity, it made some of the plaster come off the wall - if you've seen my hallway you know what I'm talking about.  Jon will fix those places and then I figured I might as well have him paint that area - it's never been painted since we moved in here.  So I'm debating between a light, bright yellow color or a light blue - I want to brighten up that stairway and hallway.

Saturday my church had it's annual School Supply Giveaway and was mentioned in the Des Moines Register!  I hope the links I put in the blog work.

And....my work received another award!  Submittal Exchange wins the 2011 Construction Specifications Institue's (CSI) Construction Technology Award!!

Today our monthly company meeting was offsite - we got to wear jeans (and it wasn't Friday) - and we could even change into shorts if we wanted to.  We went to an athletic place a couple of blocks from work and after Matt talked for a while we headed downstairs to the rock climbing walls and whoever wanted to climb the really, really high walls could - the rest of us to cheer team members on.  I would have loved to have done it - but I've tried this before on those rock walls that aren't all that high (like at the State Fair) and get about 3 feet off the ground and that's it for me - thank you very much.  And I didn't think that would be very smart of me to attempt while in the midst of physical therapy.  I could see me looking up at Blake tomorrow explaining why my shoulder was really screwed up, "Well you see Blake, at our company meeting we got to rock climb this wall and I climbed and......" so I passed.

On Facebook there is a group "You Know You're From Pella If" and it is hysterical reading the posts.  And I've done some of the posting.  People are remembering teachers, scooping the loop, the roller rink, "mixed marriages (between Pella High and Pella Christian High grads, I posted this one), coffee time, Dutch dancing and more - talk about going down memory lane......  I know several other town have these groups on Facebook and I wonder if people post to them as much at the Pella people do.  There's probably been 100 posts to it today.
